"School is no longer necessarily a place to instill a sense that linguistic rules (or even linguistic consistency) matter." (Baron, Naomi S. 2009)
Reaction:
I am shocked. All I learned in English class was Linguistic Rules. I learned how to make sentences, what a sentence was made up of, and general rules of sentences. I know students now a days are doing the same things. The school board wouldn't allow them not to. Students will still need to know how to make sentences and the general rules. Major jobs most likely wouldn't take them unless they are able to.
My Reaction:
“Whatever the benefits of digital media, it is destroying the ability of young people to construct the basic unit of the English Language...the sentence.”
My reaction to this is I disagree. I believe digital media, such as I-Pads and Smart Phones are helping students with the ability to construct the basic unit of the English Language. Personally, my phone corrects my spelling mistakes and if I don't know how to spell a word, I will pull out my phone and try to figure out how to spell the word. I know how the ability to construct the basic unit of the English Language. I know the students of the future will be able to do the same, if not better than me.
