Storybird: No Chores

The link to my story:

I could use story bird as a learning tool. I could give background information on the composers and their lives.

A way I could use Animation in my class room is to help teach the students drill. Instead of them looking at a drill chart and seeing the dots, I could make an animation for them to watch to see how they fit into the drill. Another way I can use animation in the class is to teach them about a composer we are playing.

Educational Gaming: Virtual Frog Dissection

How does this game support development in the 21st century skills?
I think it this game supports this because it gives the students time to do a virtual dissection, because must class periods are not long enough to do the actual dissection.

I would link this to ISTE standard 2a:

2. Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS·S.
      a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity

A project that teach's this skill would be from this website:
http://blogs.edweek.org/teachers/teaching_now/2012/06/frog_dissection_goes_virtual.html

"The district's Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum/Instruction, Rebecca Fleck, outlined the decision at a recent school board meeting, saying that a virtual dissection is "a good, if not a better, learning experience than hands-on dissection." She argued that errors made by students in real dissections can sometimes ruin the entire experience, and that more high schools and universities across the country are using virtual dissections in their classes."

We would use with future students to support the content area learning of science.

RA #3

Quote:
"Visual literacy is learned "reading" of the images"

Reaction:
My reaction to this is confused. I don't understand how they think you can read an images. You can look at one and write down what you think about it, but you can not "read" a image. Reading takes words and yeah a picture maybe worth a thousand words, but that is people's opinion. Being a photographer, it is hard for people to understand what you are trying to get across in a picture. I would rather read a book than look a pictures and try to understand what point was the photographer wanted us to understand.
